What You Need to Know Before Applying for Ethos Membership

In an effort to ensure Ethos Academy is a good fit for your family and students, membership is required through an application and approval process.

Service Hour Requirement and Compliance

Ethos Academy is a community partnership that relies heavily on parent/guardian support and involvement. In an effort to successfully operate an encouraging, positive, loving and safe learning environment for our students, we require all families to serve 12 hours each semester (16 weeks) on campus with a few positions that can be served remotely. Whether your student is enrolled in one class or several the hours are the same for every family. Before you register please understand that while we are a drop-off program we do require parent/guardian participation. Please review the below before registering.

Your scheduled shifts are your responsibility. Please adhere to the following:

• EVERY family is required to complete 12 service hours each semester 

  • Regardless of how many children you have enrolled, every family ONLY serves 12 hours 

  • Regardless of how many classes you register for, every family ONLY serves 12 hours

• All service hour shifts MUST be scheduled in the Parent Portal before the first day of class

• New families registering after the semester starts MUST schedule service hours within a week of membership approval

• Mark your calendar when scheduling your shift as our system does NOT send email reminders.

• Rescheduling - No adjustments will be made in the system once the semester has started. All schedule changes must be made between Ethos families in an effort to cover each other's scheduled shifts. Extenuating circumstances are addressed on an individual basis through the Service Hour Coordinator pending approval by the Director.

• SCHEDULE YOUR REPLACEMENT: If you need to miss a shift due to a change in plans or sickness, please remember to send an alternate/sub in your place to avoid any penalties.  

  • Have a Back-Up Plan: It is YOUR responsibility to find your alternate/sub. It is highly recommended you make a game plan now by creating a list of possible back-ups.  You may use your family community as an alternate (ie. spouse, grandparents, aunts/uncles).  Get to know your community, exchange contact information. 

• MISSED SHIFT PENALTY: If a shift is missed, regardless of reason, you will be expected to make up the missed shift and will also be REQUIRED to serve an additional shift equivalent in hours to the missed shift. Missed shifts are expected to be scheduled within a week along with the additional make up shift.  

  • Please do not wait until the end of the semester to schedule your missed shift(s) and additional required shifts(s). More shifts will NOT be created in the schedule to accommodate missed shifts and additional required shifts as we will not create more positions.

  • Our Service Hour Coordinator is available to assist via email if you need help scheduling your missed shift and additional required shift. 

• TWO MISSED SHIFTS PROBATION: If you miss two shifts in a semester that you do not get coverage for, you may be dropped from our program. 

  • Director will contact you to address your obligations and failure to comply with the terms of agreement you signed upon membership to Ethos Academy. You will be on probation for the remainder of the semester. An additional missed shift will result in your family’s dismissal from the program.

• FAILURE TO COMPLETE/COMPLY: Failure to complete required service hours by the end of the semester will result in registration cancellation and being dropped from the Ethos Academy program. 

Service Hour Roles and Shifts 

• On Campus Shifts

  • Set-Up or Tear-Down Teams (1 hour shift/week)

    • 8th-12th graders, who are responsible and reliable, may sign up to serve their families’ 12 hours for these teams.  

      • This is a great service opportunity for our older students giving them the chance to contribute and give back to the community. 

      • If the student is not a good fit, (is not a team player or needs constant supervision) they will be dropped from the team. You will be notified to reschedule your remaining hours in a different role. 

  • Perimeter Monitors (3 hour shift) 

  • Hallway/Lunch Monitors (2 hour shift)

  • Study Hall Monitors (2 hour shift)

  • Lunch Monitors (1 hour shift)

    • Lead Lunch Monitors

    • Assistant Lunch Monitors 

  • Classroom Helper (Only 6 of the 12 required service hours can be served in this position)

• Off Campus Shifts (Depending on need)

  • Social Media Coordinator

  • Father & Daughter Dance Coordinator

  • Mother & Son Nerf Battle Outing Coordinator

  • Graduation Coordinator

  • Field Trip Coordinator

  • Ethos Showcase Coordinator

  • Winter Market Coordinator

  • Spring Market Coordinator

  • Talent Show Coordinator

  • Teacher Appreciation Coordinator

• Ethos Support Team
